Mejora del valor social de la economía circular en Latinoamérica (ECI)

El proyecto surge como respuesta a la realidad de las familias más desfavorecidas que, en contextos como el ecuatoriano, sobreviven clasificando la basura y vendiendo materiales reciclables. Articulado en torno a los ejes económico, ambiental y social, tiene como objetivo el estudio de las posibilidades de incorporación de las cooperativas de recicladores informales en iniciativas de economía circular para un manejo sostenible de residuos.

En el proyecto se analizan como casos de estudio dos ciudades ecuatorianas: Cuenca y Portoviejo. Cuenca es un referente nacional en cuanto al manejo de residuos sólidos con su empresa municipal EMAC EP, pero el involucramiento de grupos de recicladores es limitado. En contraste, la ciudad de Portoviejo posee un manejo de residuos con amplias oportunidades de mejora, pero presenta una interesante experiencia con los grupos de recicladores. Se analizan específicamente dos cadenas de residuos: los Residuos de Aparatos Eléctricos y Electrónicos (RAEE), que constituyen una cadena de residuos de alta complejidad y dinamismo, y las botellas de plástico PET, que representan una cadena de residuos de menor complejidad.
